Fifteen and ‘a Matter of Taste’ for sustainable catering on location.

Restaurant Fifteen and party catering company ‘a Matter of taste’ have decided to cooperate. For the restaurant directly linked to Jamie Oliver’s restaurant Fifteen London, it is like a wish comes true: sustainable catering on every location in the Netherlands.

Lisette de Jong of party catering company ‘a Matter of Taste’: “The government and large companies demand a lot more in their caterings when it comes to sustainability. Working with Fifteen gives us the opportunity to give hearing to these demands. Besides this, we also help building a new future for youngsters.”

Sarah Moorman from restaurant Fifteen tells: “Since the foundation of Fifteen Amsterdam, we get a lot of inquiries for catering on location. With the knowledge and experience of ‘a Matter of Taste’ we can finally start answering these inquiries.’

Restaurant Fifteen educates every year a group of youngsters with a distance to the labour market to be a chef or host(ess). Sustainability also plays an important role in the restaurant itself. All the used ingredients are sustainable produced. Next to that, Fifteen is one of the first restaurant to use LED-lighting.

Twenty years ago ‘a Matter of Taste’ started with the catering of hors d’ouvres  on film premieres. By now ‘a Matter of Taste’ has grown to one of the leading full service party catering company for as well private as business clients.

Selection day groep 9

Wednesday September 21st 2011, selection day group 9

It is still early in the morning when the first of the 113 candidates arrive in restaurant Fifteen. They silently take a seat in the bar, waiting for the exciting day to start. Soon, more students are following and the healthy excitement can be seen from their faces. Everybody hopes to get a spot in the Fifteen student program. The spot which offers them a new future in the hospitality industry.

After the warm welcome with a cup of coffee or tea it is finally time for the official part of the day. Project manager Simone starts with her presentation about Fifteen en discusses the route which the students will have to follow to be selected. After her talk, the students are divided into small groups and get a tour around the impressive building where Fifteen is located. The candidates who are still interested could sign up for the individual interviews.

After the sign up session the students could relax with a nice lunch made by the chefs team of Fifteen. Then the most exciting part of the day came: the actual interviews which were leaded by the coaches of ‘het UWV’ and ‘Fifteen werkt!’. After the last interview, the coaches discussed the different students elaborately. Finally 51 students were selected, who will get an invitation for a trial month. 35 students hoping to become a chef and 16 to become host or hostess.

An internship for a day

As you might know, Fifteen educates every year 15 to 20 youngsters to be a chef or host/hostess. We love to show students from the catering business what we are doing at Fifteen! This year, several groups of the Hubertus Vakschool were invited to have a look around in the kitchen. Besides a tour around Fifteen, they made there own pasta’s! And it paid off:

“I would like to work at Fifteen after my study. It seems great to educate students” (student from the Hubertus Vakschool after the internship for a day).

Thanks to JINC, we get the opportunity to motivate the catering staff of the future, and it works!
